Fresh chapter of "Life on Mars" is up. Got a bit distracted by the Vignettes and another fic. But an update has been made! Rejoice (and enjoy)!

I'm rather fond of you myself.

I'm a little more motivated in terms of fic these days. But I'll be even more focussed when I finish the oddity. Nice to know I'm appreciated, though. :great:

Grmbl, and I still haven't got to reading "Life on Mars" ... Wanted to on the weekend ... Oh well, the next weekend is just around the corner. AND I found an early print-out of that one yesterday. Skimmed through it, read bits and pieces and so, an hour passed without me noticing. :brows:

Ah, you've still got the original version, have you? Well, you'll be in a good position to notice the changes, then, which will hopefully make it better (and longer, considering minor alterations have already tacked 4 pages onto the end. How do I do that?). It can't be that bad in its raw form if it kept you occupied for an hour, though. That's good to know. :great:

Hope you'll be able to tune in soon. Don't worry--we're not too far along, and who knows when I'll update again? Too many projects, too many projects...

Though you've got to reassure me, Gambit isn't leaving, is he?

Well, considering this is still taking place during the series timeline, and there are the seven overseas episodes to go after this, it would be kind of hard to write Gambit out (although I could probably manage). So I will reassure you: no, Gambit's not leaving. He'll be in the rest of the fic. Kinda. Khell knows what I mean--I can hear her snickering. No spoilers.

Little teasers but no spoilers - I patiently wait till the next update.

I'm glad though Gambit's not leaving: you're already giving him a tough time with Purdey, but I'm sure it's worth it.

Considering how much I love old Mike, I do tend to put him through the wringer, both physically and emotionally. That seems to be the fate of these fictional characters. But I can't have him leave. That would never do. And Purdey's got to do some soul-searching about him as well...

Tease, tease, tease.

I got a question for those of you out there who are familiar with the Anglican Church of England. I'm trying to figure out - just so I get a better grip on that particular part of Purdey's background - about the bishop. Her stepfather. So first, I gotta figure out where Purdey's Mum lives (I assume she lives with her husband ... ;)) so that I can determine whether he's a Bishop of London, Bishop of Oxford, Bishop of St. Albans, Bishop of Chelmsford, Bishop of Rochester, Bishop of Southwark or Bishop of Guildford. Or maybe further away from London? Chichester, Portsmouth, Winchester, Ely, St. Edmundsbury & Ipswich? Just listing random dioceses here that I'm picking off a map.

And the other thing is - what's the social status of a bishop? What kind of house would he live in? About the size of Steed's farm? Bigger? Smaller? How high-ranking would he be considered?

Oh, man, I'm horrible with stuff like this, but I do remember when rabidsamfan wrote her post-Hostage bit, that she had tje Bishop living with Purdey's mom in a "palace" (the technical name for the Bishop's residence), and I think it was a fair size. I'm not much good for much else, though, I'm afraid.

I'm affraid I can't help you either... If Purdey's stepdad had been a vicar, then I could have given you loads of information. (as three members of my family happen to be vicars) Is there no way you can look it up on the internet?

I tried looking up stuff on the internet. The only way I see for this is to just make up something. For some reason I'd like to have him reside at a cozy little village that's either very, very English or close to the sea.

Well, it's been much too long since an update, but I had to major rewrites for this chapter. Still, it's all worked out in the end. A new chapter of "Life on Mars" is up, and it's a very exciting one, if I do say so myself. Angst, mystery, suspense...all that good stuff. Hope you enjoy, and I'm eager to hear what you think.

Now I understand why it's called Life on Mars. Poor Purdey, she's so confused and I'm guessing it's only going to get worse

Well, Purdey's certainly not the only confused one, where the heck are you going with this story? It's fascinating though, and I can't wait to read more!

Even though it's still confusing, you'd understand it a bit more if you've seen either Life on Mars or Ashes to Ashes.

Yep, I kinda figured you would. Yes, there's a dose of inspiration from LoM here, although things aren't going to be playing out quite the same way they did for Sam. There's no time travel, for one thing. You may have noticed that when Purdey told the nurse it was 1977, she was right, so she's still "in the present." But she's about to get much, much more confused, definitely.

It's meant to be confusing, although part of the point of the rewrites is to make things clearer, so don't worry about it. Philippa's right in that if you've seen LoM (A2A didn't exist when I wrote it), it'd make a tiny bit more sense, but the story departs from the formula fairly quickly, while at the same time existing within my arc timeline. Oh yes, there will be twists. :brows: I'm glad it's at least caught your interest. Where am I going? Well, lots of places, but you'll have to stay tuned. Needless to say, poor Purdey's in for quite the ride.

Yeah it's very clever to use the same basic idea as in LoM, but I could tell from the start that it was already different. I noticed that it was still 1977, so I'm very curious to find out what has happened to Purdey.
In LoM, Sam saw himself as a little boy, so what will happen? Will Purdey see herself in her other life, working for the ministry, while she's still a ballet dancer and married to Larry? My mind is spinning with ideas now, but I have a feeling you'll keep us in suspence for a little while

Ohh, there are so many things I want to tell you about Purdey's situation, but I don't want to spoil it. Needless to say, I will be playing with lots of ideas, a few of which I'm hoping will be surprising and interesting. Can't wait for you to read them. *bounce bounce bounce* But I have to finish the rewrites, first.
