Oh yes, there's something I wanted to ask for a long time! What's it with the ring she always wears? It's not her wedding ring as she already wore it back in the TNA time, and I don't think she took it off on the AbFab set either...

It's a pinky ring, so no, definitely not a wedding ring. I've never read anything where she actually says where she got it and why she's so attached to it, but every single photo I've ever seen of her, from her modelling days through to now, she's wearing it. Purdey wears it. Kate wears it. Patsy wears it. I think even Sapphire wore it. She wore it on the desert island. She wears it on talk shows. She had it on this whole Gurkha thing. I actually play a little game--spot Joanna's ring!

The Avengers and TNA seemed to be pretty relaxed about the jewelary their actors wore, so long as it didn't lead to continuity problems. I'm pretty sure any and all rings/necklaces/etc. worn by the cast always belonged to the actor. Which is why the widowed Cathy Gale still wore a wedding ring (she was married to Maurice Kauffman) and Emma didn't (Diana was living with a married man, but he wasn't married to her). So Joanna's ring goes with the flow--I suspect Purdey's gold chain, gold studs, and various other rings, along with Gambit's pinky ring, chain bracelet, and pendant, were all property of the actors.

But yeah, you're probably right about TNA, although it was different for AbFab though. (so she probably is really attached to it) I think she wears it as Patsy, but I'm pretty sure they were quite strict on the amount of jewellery they could wear for their roles. I don't think Joanna would actually wear the stuff Pats usually has on in real life - imagine the horror that must be for Jennifer!

Patsy's more decked out than Purdey, so it might present more problems for the character, but in series where it doesn't hurt the character, they seem okay with it. The Avengers was always in the latter category. Emma had a bangle she used to wear all the time and then ditched, which I suspect was because Diana Rigg did the same. But Joanna's ring is omnipresent, although sometimes she switches fingers.

I'm sure Andrew Pixley wrote about it in "The Avengers Files." Shall I look?

I believe someone asked it on the forum once--"Why is Mr. Gale worth carrying a torch for, and not Peter Peel?" and I remembered reading that Honor wore her ring onscreen because she'd just been married and no one asked her to take it off. So it all comes down to the actors when it comes to ornamentation, but it does let you ruminate for fanfic purposes...

All Andrew has to say is the following:

"Purdey usually wore a ring on the small finger of her right hand, although she later switched to wearing this on the small finger of her left hand...As 1977 wore on, she started wearing two rings on her right hand, some with larger stones."

I've noticed the other rings (see Angels of Death for a good look), but they aren't still being worn like the pinky one is. It seems to be special.

Because I'm inclusive, let's look up Gambit as well, shall we?

"Gambit...slept wearing nothing more than a gold chain around his neck.....tended to wear a small ring on the little finger of his righ hand, and a silver watch (usually on his left wrist)....The only other jewellery of note was a gold chain, which he would sometimes wear on his right wrist."

When the topic for Jennifer's rings on the other forum was openened, I thought everyone was going mad. And look what I'm discussing here now!

Well I've been doing this for quite some time now, but so far I've always forgotten to mention it on the forum.
And now that I'm rummaging through my Joanna pictures I've noticed that she mostly wears it on her right hand, but sometimes on her left hand as well!
