I've always wondered this, how old is Patsy actually meant to be lol.

Funny, I had a discussion with my mum about that when we were watching Gay. I told her that the fact that they keep joking about Patsy's age is actually part of the fun. I have no clue how old she is exactly, but I'm guessing she's slightly older than Joanna is.

We can be sure she's prentending to be at least 10/15 years younger. The funny thing is that even her ''imaginary age'' (''I'm 39, 42!'') actually changed through the series, but we can still tell she's lying. I don't think she's supposed to be far over 70 (as suggested in Happy New Year) but she's definitely over 60.

I'm so technical lol, so is Patsy meant to be older than Edina, I thought they were in the same class at school???

I always assumed Patsy is definitely older than Edina. They used to be in the same class, but only because Pats failed classes for years, haha.

Patsy was only a man for about a year during the 60's...then "it dropped off"

I've never heard Jennifer say anything about where the inspiration for the storyline came from. I think she just thought it was funny...she can, at times, have a strange sense of humor. I'm sure, though, that she has heard of April Ashley so that may very well be where she got the idea.

Well, it was assumed that she had been a man once, yes. They did another ''dream scene'' in the Gay special, so it's most likely to be true. I have no clue if it's a reference to anything, but Jennifer herself has a wicked sense of humor at times, so it could very well have been her own idea.

I think it was the Morocco episode where Edina let it slip that one could go there for a sex change, clearly talking about Patsy, and the quickly follows up with "well, not anymore." So yeah, at one point she was definitely a man.

In that one scene you see Pats with short hair, a moustache and a sort of Sgt. Pepper outfit holding a guitar, when she was supposed to have been a man.

As for her age, I don't think she's 72 like in the Happy New Year episode. I think Jackie is actually the older sister, but she burnt Pats with her cigarette to make her say that she's the older one. Throughout the series she's claimed to have been 39, 42 and 43 years old, and in Cold Turkey when she arrives in hospital, they say she's 65. So who knows how old Patsy is? In the Paris episode, as you take a look at her passport, it says 19.. and she has crossed out the other digits

They used that scene again for Gay, brilliant! I must say Joanna makes a really good man, because of the low voice and her broad shoulders.

You're probably right there, it would just be unrealistic if otherwise. She simply didn't look like 72 back then, and she still doesn't. The passport doesn't give away anything either: they show it in Paris and Gay, and everytime I pause the scene to take a closer look. Only her the month and day are clearly visible, she's crossed out the year.

I think that she mentions something about her mother not putting her in grade school until she was taller than the teacher. That could be why she's older but still in the same class :P
