Iconic hairstyles on BBC's ''The One Show''

Hey

My name's Alice Bailey and I work at Real Life Media Productions who make programmes for the BBC's The One Show. We're currently making a series which celebrates iconic hairstyles and we're looking to do one programme which focuses on the infamous 'Purdy' haircut. What we want are enthusiasts of the show and Joanna who are willing to have their haircut into a purdy and, of course, don't mind being filmed and talking about their interest! If you are interested and for more information please contact me via my email - [email protected].
Thanks

Alice

Re: BBC The One Show

Hey there Alice!

That's such a great idea, a series about iconic hairstyles. Joanna's Purdey bob definitely was!
We've also got a Twitter page for this forum, would you like me to put this information out there as well? It might reach a more widespread audience that way.

Hey Philippa,

Yeah that'd be great if you could put this on your Twitter page!

Fingers crossed the show will be good - we just need to get ourselves some willing participants now

Re: BBC The One Show

I would do it but my hair is much too short, that's the problem. I was just looking at some older photos of me the other day and I once had a haircut that looked a lot like the Purdey cut - only that I had no idea during that time that "it" had a name

Re: BBC The One Show

Hi Alice! What a splendid idea for a TV show - does Joanna know about this?

Anyway, it's not going to be me I'm afraid either, though I could be a proper Purdey with my height, the bob and my natural hair colour.

Re: Iconic hairstyles on BBC's ''The One Show''

I had a Purdeyish bob when I was about 4. I don't think I could get away with it now.

I need my hair cut, but my face is wrong for it, too. It suits more angular features. That's not me.

There's also the small problem of my being on the other side of the Atlantic.

Re: Iconic hairstyles on BBC's ''The One Show''

I don't think the hairstyle would suit me either, and I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to have my long locks cut off. But it's a nice thought. And I'm the other side of the English Channel, so it's a no go for me anyway

Re: Iconic hairstyles on BBC's ''The One Show''

Same goes for me, really: I don't think it would suit me, though it's not really the hair that matters to me. (hey, I've had it bobbed before and it always grows back so I'm fine with that)

I hope you'll find someone else soon though.

BBC The One Show

Hi,

A colleague of mine posted on this forum a number of weeks ago about an item we are making for BBC's The One Show. She has since moved onto another company and so I wanted to send a quick update to see if anyone is interested.

The item will make up part of a series of films looking at iconic hairstyles of the twentieth century. This one is looking at the Purdy hairstyle, which of course leads us back to Joanna Lumley and the New Avengers.

We are looking for someone to allow us to demonstrate the Purdy hairstyle on them, and who preferably is also a fan of the New Avengers. Blonde hair, with enough length is a must.

The item will be really positive and nostalgic, and the day should be lots of fun. Someone asked on another post if Joanna knows about the film - she does. We would have naturally loved to interview her but sadly we need to be finished before she comes back from Broadway.

As you can see I am running against a real deadline here. And so if anyone interested could get in touch as soon as possible it would be greatly appreciated.

My email is [email protected] and my direct dial is 0113 203 4067.

I think someone may have posted something on your twitter site last time too? If this is possible again that would be brilliant.

Many thanks,

Carla

Hi Carla,

I've merged the topic with the one your colleague opened earlier - this topic is now listed as ''announcement'' so I'm sure people will read it this way as well.

I think it's a really lovely idea for a show but it would be impossible for me to contribute to. It was me who updates the Twitter page we have for Joanna last time and I'll will do so again if that's any help to you.

Good luck!

Hi Carla!

I'm surprised that you still haven't been able to find anyone for this. I would think that many people, especially New Avengers fan, would be interested in this. Because it does sound like a lot of fun. Good luck with making the programme etc, and let us know how you get on!

Re: Iconic hairstyles on BBC's ''The One Show''

Thank you very much - and sorry I have just posted this again by accident as I couldn't find my original post and thought I had forgotten to submit it. Apologies Maartje - I've just seen you added it on here.

We've not had a great response so far but it will be a really fun day and the Purdey is coming back into fashion so I think it could look great. We did Ziggy Stardust last week - much harder to wear on a day to day basis!

Another thing thing we're looking for are pictures of people who had a Purdey back in the day. So if anyone isn't quite brave enough for the cut but would be happy for us to use an old photo, that'd be really useful.

As before it's [email protected]

Re: Iconic hairstyles on BBC's ''The One Show''

Hi Carla,

That's Ok. I closed the topic you opened earlier today, I hope you understand.

I'm very sorry that the response hasn't been great so far but I think this has got to do with the fact that a lot of Joanna fans (especially the ones on this forum) don't live in Britain. I'm fairly sure most of us would have loved to contribute otherwise.

Good luck.
