I realise that you made your post over a month ago, but how was the movie? I've never seen it (only the animated version of the pink pather LOL) and am curious to know. And most of all: how's Jo's part??

well there were 2 pink panther films with joanna on tv that same day. curse of the pink panther and trail of the pink panther (she plays 2 different characters)
i prefered curse of the pink panther, joanna had a big part in it as a french reporter and i quite liked it. i didn't finish watching the other one because it was quite annoying.
this goofy american has to go and search for clouseau and after a while it gets a bit boring. but joanna was fab in both films :D

^I just realised that in my previous post, I got the 2 films mixed up. Joanna plays a French reporter in 'Curse of the Pink Panther'.
Anyway, I'm downloading this film right now, would anyone be interested in it? Because in that case I'll upload it.

I just saw one of these earlier this week! I was so surprised to turn on HBO and see Joanna, and such a young Joanna at that, looking back at me. Usually the only time I get to see her is on the rare occassion when Ab Fab is aired. Anyway, it was the one where she was a French reporter...she was so gorgeous and her french accent was adorable!

For those who haven't seen the movies *cough* here's a preview. Très charming, Joanna. :lolol:

I've seen clips of Joanna in the Panther movies. She does a good job of accents, doesn't she?

I was just looking at my Love Actually poster yesterday, and I was surprised to see that the casting had been done by Mary Selway. Now, Mary Selway was a well-regarded casting director, and the name rang a bell because they used her when they cast Purdey in TNA. She was the one who famously thought Joanna couldn't act because she was an ex-model, or, as she said when they cast her, "We can't have seen all these girls just to end up with Joanna Lumley!" What does this have to do with the Pink Panther? Well, Mary cast both of those movies as well. I'm guessing someone had changed their mind about "airhead model" Joanna by that point.

It would have been much easier for Jo these days. It doesn't matte whether you model, act or sing - if you're famous, you can get into anything you want. And that's exactly what I hold against Hollywood: a good singer doesn't make a good actor. It's just to easy to switch between professions these days, it hurts the quality of productions.

I think Joanna's pretty intelligent, and understanding and sensitive when it comes to people. She was just so young back then, and maybe a bit (more) silly too.

It would be easier now, but you're right. As Gareth said, being famous does not equate with having talent. He thought it was sad people didn't set out to be an actor or singer, just "famous" at any cost.

Joanna was very intelligent and disciplined back in the seventies, but Mary Selway was convinced she "wasn't an actress, just a model playing at acting," and therefore didn't think she'd be able to handle the role. Aren't you glad Brian Clemens and company overrode her?

Now those are funny little anecdotes
I'm glad Brian Clemens etc overruled her, and that she changed her mind by the time of the Pink Panther films. Though I have to say, the 2 films Joanna was in, weren't very good

I've never watched any Pink Panther, but I'm not surprised--how do you make a movie without a star? But the interesting thing is that she cast Joanna for both of them, so she must have seen something she liked in the end. All it took was a really stubborn Brian Clemens.
