Dear me: a letter to my sixteen-year-old self

Post here about Joanna related releases, like books and DVDs.

Dear me: a letter to my sixteen-year-old self

New postby Mara on 22 Oct 2009, 21:56

Apparently, Joanna has contributed to this ''confessions'' book, written by celebs. I've found Elton John's story on a Duch website, and I think this can be very interesting.

I'm also pretty excited to read what Annie Lennox, Debbie Harry and Stephen Fry have come up with!

what fun!! the Daily Mail ran stories of other celebs who contributed but they didn't feature Joanna's.

Great! That would make for an interesting read. Any news on when it'll come out?

I've just received my copy, and I'd recommend this little book to everyone. It's beautifully done, with lots of little drawings and pictures. Some letters are really funny, other are sad - I love it. Anyway - I had a good laugh reading Joanna's, so here it is:

Dear me,

Not long now until you leave school altogether so please try to concentrate on your work for a bit. You can't pass German 'A' level if you don't read the set books, you fool. Do one thing at a time, and do it properly. Keep up the acting but try to play women's parts now + again. Don't worry about spots: they will go. Volunteer for everything because that way lies adventure. Don't think you know everything because you've barely started. Be daring: be polite. Make your wrint legible. You have 'attitude'; although this quality will be much admired in future generations it's pretty repellent so cut it out. Be kind: stop showing off. You seem to spend a lot of time laughing: that's good. You'll remember laughing like that when you're old. Do your best. Don't worry. I'll always be here. All is well; thinking of you so much, you funny young person. Keep in touch. Lots of love, xxx Me.

There's work to be done on the handwriting still, Jo. It took me pretty long to figure it out, haha.

I can lend you my copy sometime? We have enough Joanna stuff we can exchange, haha.

It's worth getting though, I was especially touched by the letters from Julia Sawalha and Debbie Harry who wrote: ''Dreams Do Come True. Keep Dreaming''.
