Braveo always had the best pictures, pretty much the same when it came to Abba. If only this one was just a tiny bit bigger, but I'm sure you can make a lovely avatar out of it.

Timeless A-Peel wrote:Yeah, there was a picture of ABBA in there as well. And some of David and Shaun Cassidy.

Thank you!
Mara wrote:Yes, we could give it a go, I suppose. Although I must admit that I - just like Joanna - have never managed to get an A-level in German.Timeless A-Peel wrote:Yeah, there was a picture of ABBA in there as well. And some of David and Shaun Cassidy.
Can you see what I'd have loved to be a teenager in the seventies? TNA, Abba, John Travolta... Fabulous!

Gorgeous, isn't it?

It's something Purdey could wear, but I wouldn't really say it's typical Jo... The colouring's a bit strange, but the photograph is still really nice.

That is beyond gorgeous

Philippa wrote:Yes I agree. She does look younger there than she does as Purdey.

If you look at TV ads (I'm thinking of the chocolate Flake adverts mostly) or ... dare I say ... erotic films of the 70's you'll see that type of film quality very often.![]()

There's an album of Dusty Springfield from 1978 which has the same colour-subdued, whispy photography.

Ah, yes, I've seen that one on ebay, too. It's lovely. I think it was taken at her home--she's wearing her own clothes, and you can tell the Purdey bob hasn't been styled.

Timeless A-Peel wrote:Didn't they also start with the soft-focus filming in the seventies? There are a couple of episodes of TNA where you can tell they've made an effort to make everything look softer (Dirtier by the Dozen comes to mind).
I kind of like the sepia/colour mix, actually. I wouldn't want every picture taken that way or anything, but there's something lovely about it.

Yeah, the late 70's became the anti-60's in a way. In the 60's everything was vibrant, lots of colour Pop Art and in your face. Around the time of The New Avengers it was more soft-focus, high contrast, pastels.
Laura Ashley instead of Mary Quant!![]()
Women's fashions were more flowing and layered (Mrs DF tells me ...)
I'd noticed the fashion all on my own. Once you've made everything as tiny as possible, the only way you have to go is to make everything with more--longer skirts, longer pants, long jackets, thicker cuffs and ties. I find that while I prefer sixties clothes for women, I liked the seventies clothes better for the men. Done right they were just gorgeous, and didn't look as though they'd been thrown in the wash and shrunk.

Mara wrote:Talking about fashion then, are we? I don't like the sixties clothes that much: I always picture rather dirty looking hippies with baggy clothes somehow, haha. Seventies clothes are good though, even for the women: there's just something über trendy about it. Don't get me started on eighties clothes: it's fun, but it's not my style.
I do like most of Purdey's clothes, although I'm willing to agree with Timeless that men look better in seventies fashion.
