Purdey's fights

Two words: leg work! I love the fighting scenes, not only because they're far more realistic than they used to be on the Avengers, but also the Purdey's style of fighting.

Gotta love Joanna for her high kicks and karatee moves.

Re: Purdey's fights

I love TNA because not only are the fights athletic, but Gareth and Joanna did almost all of the stuntwork themselves. They trained so hard, and it's a joy to watch what they were able to do. I remember Ray Austin telling Joanna to kick his hand when it was raised above his head. She did. "See, Albert, she couldn't do that two weeks ago!" All that, and in impractical footwear.

Favourite Purdey fight? Hmm... The one she has in Faces is good, if only because Mullins looks so shocked when she kicks him. Last of the Cybernauts, even if she ends up being on the losing end with Kane. I love her doing her party trick with Gambit, too.

Re: Purdey's fights

I was just watching the Last of Cybernauts when I came up with the idea of creating this topic: I'd say the scene in her apartment is her best fight, but the party trick's a nice one too. I quite like her fighting practice with Spence in the gym too, she must have practised for ages, but it looks really good.

I like her fighting practice with Gambit even better. :brows: "We could stay like this all year." "What, and miss Christmas?" "What a way to spend Christmas."

I like her legs !
She's still this lovely little ballerina when she fights. ^^
Plus, one thing I like, I've never seen her scared or being in a state of hysteria, she doesn't lose her self-control.

Re: Purdey's fights

My favourite fight sequence with Purdey is in FACES when she goes to this old and abandoned base.
It's full of suspens when we see those harrows coming from nowhere.
I love when Purdey kicks the guy's ass. :lmao:
It's so good to watch !

An Avenger girl never does, that's part of the character. I can't imagine Emma actually being scared and showing it. Purdey's a little bit different though, she seems to be more sensitive and she shows her emotions more easily, but it's hardly ever fear we can read on her face, and I think that's why I prefer her above any other of the girls.

You're right about the scene in Faces - it's great, and again: excellent leg work!

Purdey loses it a bit - quite appropriately - when Gambit shoots Larry Doomer in Obsession.

It's a very shiny, happy, pretty forum. I've not been here a year yet, but my posts keep growing exponentially (between here and the fan forum, I'm pretty much booked solid internetwise  ). Philippa and Maartje do a great job running the place. You'll like it here.

Goodness gusy, you make me blush. I love the forum myself too - most people I know either don't know Joanna's work, or don't care about it in any way. I'm so glad there's such a lovely bunch of people on here whom I can talk to about... well, everything really.

Yeah, it's tough being an Anglophile when no one else knows about most things you want to talk about. Started with the Avengers, and spread to most other stuff I'm interested in. The internet's really great for things like this.

Re: Purdey's fights

One of my favourite fights is in the episode 'Hostage' at the very beginning were Purdey is attacked at her home .
It's a short fight but very raw and you can clearly see Purdey isn't a girl to mess with - in spite that she looses the fight and gets drugged ...

Yes, she get chloformed in the end, but not after a terrific struggle. This is a contrast to the Tara King days when, after one whiff of the stuff, she would be out cold.

It makes me wince, but I still think the Angels of Death fight is very effective.

It's a bit like Emma's fighting style, with the exception that Purdey does way more leg work. That certainly developped through the series.

Re: Purdey's fights

I like Purdey and Gambit's combo fight in Dirtier by the Dozen, when they get her out of her cell. It's so much fun when Avengers combine their moves and take out people together. Doesn't happen often--usually they each take someone on separately. Purdey's fight onstage in Three-Handed Game is pretty to look at, but it hurts it a little that Joanna didn't do a lot of it herself.

Can I add in her little bout with Gambit in Dead Men are Dangerous? "We could stay like this all year." "What, and miss Christmas?" Genius.
