Sapphire & Steel sadness *contains spoilers*

Postby Philippa on 02 Jun 2008, 19:16

so....i finished watching the last series a few days ago, and to be honest, i'm quite sad. i really liked it, and i don't like open endings like this.
the fact that they got stuck there, and that we'll never know exactly how the story ends, slightly annoys me. alright, so they don't have to walk off into the sunset together, but i'd still like to see some sort of ending.

ah well, i'm curious to hear what everyone else thought of it

I quite like the ending & it's always in those 'Top 10 Cliffhanger Endings' polls because it is literally a cliffhanger, Steel could have fallen out that cafe door LOL

It wasn't meant to be the final ending though, the series never returned because the station ATV was taken over by a different channel & lots of shows went. Ages ago I found a music video tribute to the ATV station that played on TV when it closed, & there are very brief clips of Joanna & David on the set. I have it saved to disc somewhere, shall have to find it. A couple of pics from it :-

There was talk last year that ITV wanted to remake it but the original creator/writer P J Hammond said they wanted to dumb it down & explain everything, but the whole point of the show was its mystery !

No, they are just behind-the-scenes, off camera pics.
The series was never meant to end where it did. The writer/creator had future series planned, so the cliffhanger ending was entirely unintentional.

I'd might like to see a remake if it kept all of the mystery and charm of the original... though I doubt they could pull it of without David McCallum and Joanna.... :?

I wouldn't want to see a remake of it. Nobody can top Joanna and David!

You know, the more I think about it the more I realize they couldn't pull it off.
If they hadn't been so perfect.... jeez.

Re: Sapphire & Steel sadness *contains spoilers*

Postby AbFabLaur89 on 12 Jan 2009, 07:46

I finally finished watching the entire series last night and shit bombs, I hated the ending!!!! The only good thing about it was that Sapphire and Steel were still together in the end. But I mean c'mon, trapped in space FOREVER!!!! That's just cruel!! It really freaked me out and shocked me. My jaw literally dropped lol!! But yeah, we never got to see them ACTUALLY *FULLY* kiss and I wanted that SO badly!! The closest we got was the adventure Mr. McDee Must Die and they moved the camera away from their faces before we could see anything more than Joanna's lips just barely touching David's!! I was like "wtf is with the constant teasing?!?!" LOL..like, shit!! They can't just toy with us like that!! haha..But yeah, my heart flutters every time the two of them share a stargazing glance with each other, or hold hands, or just have ANY physical contact or human type emotions with one another at all

But yeah, fuck the ending.... :explode:

P.S. When the evil chick all dressed in black said "THIS PLACE IS NOWHERE!!!!" was that not the freakiest thing ever?!?! :o Scared the frick out of me!! And when Steel opened the door and almost walked out into space, omg!!

You know, even though there's neither Joanna nor David McCallum in them, I really recommend the Big Finish audio adventures. They're very well-done. I absolutely love them and just ordered season 2. I think Harker and Warner are doing an admirable job as Sapphire and Steel. Steel's as grumpy and gruff as ever and Sapphire - well, she's just Sapphire. They never tell how they got out of the café, mind you, but never mind. I got at least three theories about that.

Yeah, the ending really upset me ... but I found this fabulous fan fiction online somewhere, which gives you a _great_ ending! ... It's a chapter story and really well written ... if you want to, I could dig up the website, or you just google for 'Sapphire & Steel Fan Fiction' ... it should turn up on one of the first pages.

S&S is so amazing. I actually got a friend of my hooked ... She is into sci-fi, so it wasn't all that hard, but she gave me a strange look when I mentioned 70s and 'made in the UK' ... still; she now loves the show and I have someone to sit down and discuss it with over tea & cookies. !

Time's Transients, I think is the name of the fic. If that's the one you mean, I couldn't agree any more. It's wonderful! Also, keep your eyes open for Zircon's fan fic. That's pretty good, too. There's way to little S&S fan fic out there ... *sigh*

I like them all but I especially recommend "The Fall of Darkness" and for those who like crossovers "Timeship". I printed them all and put them in a folder. One of my greatest treasures.
