Great to know that iconic fighting suit still exists as there are many rumours about Emma Peel's outfits being given to producers wives and girlfriends, sold, lost or missing. There was even a rumour that Diana Rigg gave her outfits to her daughter to cut up.

All of which I'm pretty sure are true, I'm afraid. I wonder where this one was picked up? I love the Emmapeelers--definitely great that some still exist. ^^

Re: The Avengers: the Emma Peel era / Diana Rigg talk

I've been watching through the fourth series lately. Fantastic, every episode is a gem and for the era the episodes move on at a great pace. I can't believe I've got to age of sixteen and my father (who loves The Avengers, especially the Emma Peel era) had not introduced me to the old series. In the end I had to suggest watching them to him.
I just love the chemistry between John Steed and Emma Peel and how immediate it is. And the dialogue is just brilliant. "I can move like a cat in carpet slippers" and "What happened to pussy hoody pussy?" are my favourite quotes from The Town of No Return.
Not only do I want to be Purdey but now I want to be Emma Peel too. There is something about Diana Rigg's voice that is just soo cool.

It's great when you find the show like this. Season four is the apex of The Avengers.

Even though I have not yet seen all of The Avengers and should not judge, I positively agree.

Yes, I mean there are some wonderful episodes leading up to season four and some great episodes after - but as a whole, season four is the one I always return to.

Well said! Philippa and I have been watching the black and white series lately and they're brilliant as well. I had never watched these before and the whole atmosphere of the episodes and the acting is great, even though they're in black and white.

By the way, the actual quote is "What happened to pussy-footed pussy?" Sorry for being pedantic.

No apology needed, thank you for telling me what it was. I couldn't hear properly and because I was watching it on youtube, I couldn't put subtitles on.

Great to read that you're enjoying season four so much. I think pretty much every fan, regardless of personal taste or bias, would say, objectively, that season four was the very best Avengers season. It's TV at its finest--the scripts, the interaction between Patrick and Diana, the wardrobe, the camerawork, the sets. Everything's just brilliant. But the Steed/Emma interplay is the crowning glory. They really are magic onscreen. ^^

I hope you enjoy the rest of the season. Season five is better known among the general population, because it's in colour and black and white isn't shown much on TV nowadays, but there are so many gems to see. I love Purdey and Gambit, but Steed and Emma were the pair that got me into the show to begin with, and there's a reason for that. And I know what you mean--I still want to be Emma, after all these years. Hey, it would be worth it for the wardrobe alone, not to mention the skill set. There's no question she's the best Avengers girl.

(And like you, my dad put me onto the Avengers. He had no idea what he was starting. :lmao: ).

Re: The Avengers: the Emma Peel era / Diana Rigg talk

I just can't wait for the new 4th season DVD set with the restored/enhanced picture. I'm still holding on - apart from the fact there is a defect or two - as my New Year's resolution was 'don't buy anything you're not going to watch straight away'. The previous box set still has loads of episodes and extras yet to be watched.

In fact I'm still considering a Blu ray edition. I will buy a player eventually - so once my DVD hardive dies that's it.

Me, too. The screencaps for the new set look absolutely gorgeous. But I'm waiting to buy it as part of a larger Amazon order, to try and keep shipping costs down. Because of that I haven't gotten the season 3 set, either, so I'll end up with a big block of Avenging goodness all at once.

Re: The Avengers: the Emma Peel era / Diana Rigg talk

My friend's father recently *cough*downloaded*cough* a bunch of Avengers episodes. I borrowed the DVDs from him, now I only need time to watch... but they're all Emma ^_^.
Not sure about other countries, but over her she was nicknamed "Karate Emma" *lol*.

Oh and I watched the "Agatha Christie's Poirot" episode "Five Little Pigs" and kept thinking 'That actress playing Caroline... who does she remind me of?' ... well, it was Rachael Stirling - Diana Rigg's daughter and I still don't know what exactly it is, but she looks like her mother without really having her features.
A ballanced diet is a drink in each hand.

Re: The Avengers: the Emma Peel era / Diana Rigg talk

Rachael Stirling has many of Diana Rigg's mannerisms. Some of her expressions are similar too. I agree she doesn't share many of her mother's physical features - her body shape is strikingly different, RS has a bust, which Diana never had. I always think it's faintly hilarious in OHMSS Diana bends over the casino rable to show her cleavage. The words - 'you can't make a mountain out of a mole hill' come to mind .... :zip:

Get it. It's the most gorgeous book you'll ever see. The Diana shots are amazing, and so are the rest. Great coffee table volume. Gorgeous. ^^

And I'm really looking forward to the Diana set. Finally a reason to buy the Mrs. Bradley Mysteries.

Mrs DF's words when the last Avengers book came via the postman were. "Haven't you got enough books about The Avengers!"

That book looks tempting though ...

Look forward to discussing 'Mrs Bradley' when you get your discs, Timeless.
