Ahaha Irish ginger hair, I like that idea! So perhaps an Irish inspired name, or is that too obvious?

I'm curious to hear what you've come up with. Irish names are kinda cool I think, often with very original spelling.

What about Brighid? I quite like that one, since it's the Irish version of my own name. *lol*

As for the names I came up with for my set of five - well, they might just have decided that Gambit could name the girls and Purdey the boys and Gambit got lucky.

Poor Purdey :lolol:
She'll probably end up giving Emma a nickname so she hasn't have to call her by her real name.

Oh, I refuse to believe she's that jealous. She's the kind of girl that wouldn't like the competition at first, but in the end, I think she would appreciate mrs. Peel for her tough character. Anyway, I always imagine they should get along in the end, after a few difficulties when meeting.

I suspect if she had some time to hang around with Emma, she would feel a little less defensive as well (indeed, that's the way I wrote her in "Brazil"). But I think it would help if Steed and Gambit didn't think Emma was the best thing since sliced bread. I think Gambit's more crushing than anything, but still, Purdey's the jealous type, and Emma is...Emma. The great Emma Peel. No one's in Emma's league. She's living legend material. I think that would always be in the back of Purdey's mind. Poor girl.

I think they'll be polite to each other at first, perhaps a bit more friendly later on, but Purdey and Emma will never be the best of friends. At least that's how I see it, but I could be wrong of course.
Purdey's quite stubborn, and since Steed and Gambit think Emma's the best thing since sliced bread (nice one Timeless, had to use it!), that's not going to help. Purdey's the jealous type. So in due time she could get over her jealousy, but will always be cautious I think.

I agree with you there. Polite, but never the best of friends. Purdey does tend to let jealousy get the best of her, and she might be able to tamp it down, but I don't think she could ever squelch it completely. She'd need a lot reassurance from Gambit that she was still number one in his book, I think. But then I think he'd also be happy to provide it. He thinks Emma's brilliant, I think, but I also think Emma and Gambit are better suited as friends. Even if he does like sliced bread.

Hm, yes, Emma would be quite a legend, even though it had already been ten years. And the fact that Gambit clearly shows some interest in her (I bet she's on page one of his ''little black book'' as well) wouldn't make it easier. I think they should be able to get along in the end, out of respect, but I don't see the girls brushing each others and and becoming best friends either, no.

I think Emma's on the "wishlist" of Gambit's little black book--he's hoping to move her into the index, but it ain't happening. But he's definitely interested, whereas the two times she's mentioned around Purdey, Purdey goes livid. I think Emma would be more willing to make peace than Purdey. Emma would probably even find Purdey's competitiveness amusing. They could probably reach an understanding. But no hairbrushing, definitely not.

Agre on Emma. But I think Purdey and Tara could get along just fine. All that Steed hero-worship business they're sharing. And they would be roughly about the same age, wouldn't they? I can really see them got out shopping together (Lacroix, baby!) and then, have tea and exchange stories about Steed.

Hmm, I always think Purdey'd be a bit too acerbic for Tara, and Tara a little too sweet for Purdey. They both like Steed, but that might be a cause for jealousy rather than friendship. The two Avengers girls I always can see getting along the best are Cathy and Emma. Poor Steed would never have a chance.

You might be right about Purdey and Tara, they might get jealous

And I could definitely see Cathy and Emma getting along, no wonder I wrote a fic featuring both of them

There WAS a story, once, where Cathy and Emma did team up on Steed. I don't remember the title but I'm sure Timeless will know which one I mean. It was about Steed having dinner with one of the ladies and the other one turning up, too. Hilarious!

That was "Just Desserts" by Sula, from the aformentioned, now-defunct FOLLI in Avengerland site. That fic was hilarious. I can see Emma and Cathy getting a little revenge on Steed easy. No one would stand a chance between the two of them. Gambit just fled out the back way. :lolol:

This probably seems like horrible teasing, but I'm making real progress on my AU. Hoping I can finish it in a week or so. It's what's holding up Vignette/Life on Mars updates, so I want to finish it so I can focus on other things. Once it's done I'll send it off for betaing, and depending on what the response is, and how I'm feeling about it, I'll either post it on ff.net, or in this thread. You'll get to read it one way or another, though. Just hope I can be disciplined enough to finish it.

You're making me really curious about this AU story. Will it involve loads of Purdey/Gambit lovelyness?

Well, it's about Purdey and Gambit, definitely, and there will be some loveliness, as well as a heavy dose of angst. My AU stories are always "what if?" scenarios, and a bit experimental, so I do things that I wouldn't otherwise, stuff that I'm unsure about how well it will work. So it'll be slightly different than my other fics, and a way of exploring a different way of looking at the relationships between the characters, and playing with their motivations and actions in the series a little. I'm hoping it will be successful. I really loved it at the start, but by the end you get too familiar with the story to look at it objectively, which is why I need betas. I've already been working on it more than a month, which I didn't expect, so I want to push it along and finish it so I can get back to "Life on Mars" rewrites. Hopefully you'll enjoy the finished product.
