Up in Town (2002)

There's more to Joanna than AbFab: here's the place to talk about the other work she has done!

Up in Town (2002)

So, as my introductory post said, I just discovered this absolute gem of a program. I was completely floored by Ms. Lumley's acting...I really had no idea she had that kind of range and versatility. And I keep watching it over and over again...there is just something about her...you simply cannot take your eyes off of her. And it's not just her beauty, it's the extreme depth of character she's created and those wonderfully expressive eyes that are always showing some level of sadness. I truly think her work here should be studied by film actors about how to properly work in front of the camera. And she's had no formal training!!!

My favorite selections are Romans, Flake and Ton 1. There are times when you're laughing hysterically at her deadpan deliveries but then other times when you just want to reach through the screen and give her a big hug.

Brilliant work.

I have to admit I've only watched the 1st episode so far, but I do think it's fantastic. Can't wait to see the rest

I love this programme. It was shown originally over six nights on BBC2 but I missed one or two episodes. After I bought the DVD I was able to watch the lot and I was completely transfixed. I think this is an overlooked gem and Joanna's acting, timing and sense of irony should have been award-winning.

I admit I've watched it many times and each time I find it truly hypnotic.

Any fan of Sensitive Skin needs to watch this, as it contains the same seam of dark comedy.

Oh yes definitely. It's totally Hugo Blick's style of writing and directing, and Joanna's brilliance of acting makes it come to life. Definitely have to watch this again sometime soon
