The Cat's Meow

There's more to Joanna than AbFab: here's the place to talk about the other work she has done!

The Cat's Meow

Loved this movie. To be honest, Eddie Izzard is the reason I watched it. Jo Lumley [again] provides a fantastic performance. :worship:

I've had this on my computer for a while now, but I still haven't watched it! I should really do that sometime soon.
How big is Jo's part?

Me neither - let's watch it together this afternoon, so we can discuss it tonight. (we're both online at the oddest times, did you notice?)

Unfortunately I can't, I have to work tonight (again!) I also worked yesterday, that's why I only came online well after midnight.
And yeah I did notice we're online at weird times. I can remember both of us being online until 2.30 am yesterday

''I've been at work all day as well Pats!''

Poor you... I was at work yesterday too, but I'm free for this evening. ''What a long, tedious day!" :lolol:

But yeah, we were both online at around 2:30, haha.

Her part is pretty substantial. She also opens the film with a narration/internal monologue.

And the movie's got pot-smoking and moonshine. Need I say more?

This was the first outside-abfab thing I watched with Jo in it. It's not the greatest thing you'll ever see but the costumes are gorgeous, and it has Rory's grandad from Gilmore Girls in it, and of course, Eddie Izzard.

There is an extra on the DVD where Eddie is talking about the downtime during filming and they'd go rambling up into the mountains, and Joanna would pull things off strange trees and tell them to eat it, and he said they did, because Joanna told them to

Haha, nice anecdote - I'd really love to see those extras, Eddie's a funny one.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. If you want, you can introduce yourself to everyone by opening a new topic in the welcoming section.

I downloaded this, but never watched it. So now I'll have to download it again, and really watch it this time. It sounds good

You have to watch it guys - it would be a good movie even if Joanna wasn't in it! Ha.

Like FruFru, I checked out the extra's on the DVD & Eddie Izzard makes the point, in the commentry to a scene where Joanna's character is getting stoned, that Joanna gets drunk or stoned in SO MANY of her projects. He jokes that she is nothing like that in real life - she is actually like a nun, "a very pissed nun." Ha, ha. Its a really good movie & Joanna looks great in it with a shocking red wig.

Oh, I love these little Joanna mentions! Is it possible that either one of you could upload it for the media section on the forum, I'd really love to see it!

Well there are a few things I haven't spotted in the media section that I would like to upload. But a) Im soooo bad with computers & b) I use a mac not a PC - so it may take me a while to get my head round it, but I'm going to look into it!

It would be really great if you could add files that aren't yet in the media! Uploading is not too difficult as long as you've got a proper internet connection. (which I assume, you have) You just go to www.megaupload.com (www.sendspace.com is helpful for smaller files) and select the file you want to upload. Then you can open a topic, and post a link.

Thanks for the tips Maartje. Im going to look for some free software over the weekend that will let me copy DVD's to my Mac - I think there is one called Handbrake that should work (I just hope PC users will be able to access the files I create). Only one way to find out.

Thinking about it though, the Cats Meow extras are mainly voice overs for the main film - not sure if its possible to make copies of that. :doubt: There are a couple of behind the scenes things, but Joanna isn't in them much, whereas she provides commentary for the whole film.
