'Twas. I actually had teh second scnee already written, but I needed the first one to link them, and not writing it is what delayed me. So they're both up now. And yes, Gambit is sweet. I just know it, so I write him that way.

I think the thing most people miss about Gambit is that he's got a very soft, vulnerable side, and even though he's been with his share of women, you get the sense he'd be willing to stick with one if she was the right one and she was willing to stick with him, and now that he's found Purdey, he knows she's the one he wants to give everyone else up for. He's just having fun in the meantime. I always got the sense that if Purdey said "Let's go!" he'd be there in a second.

Or maybe that's just me. Either way, that's what informs the arc and the Vignettes. And the Vignettes are meant to be little schmaltzy feel-goods. So I'm glad you're enjoying them. I have more schmaltz in mind.

Oh, I always get that feeling too! He might not understand her always, but he certainly does care. I'm sure Purdey feels the same way, only she's just a little bit better at hiding it. She has her own little way of flirting though, even though it is never more than that. I sometimes feel it would have made their relationship more dynamic if Purdey had a few boyfriends in the mean time as well, but that's - unfortunately - not how the producers pictures it...

We get lots of hints that Purdey feels much more for Gambit than she lets on--her tearful outbursts when she thinks he's dead in Faces pretty much confirm she has feelings for him. I think a lot of her reluctance has to do with her failed engagement to Larry and the death of her father in the same job that Gambit and she are in. She's just terrified of getting hurt again. So she flirts and plays with him a little, leads him on, but never lets him in.

Brian Clemens said it was supposed to be clear that Purdey was carrying on with someone in season 2, but I've never seen it. She does flirt with a lot of guys, and there may or may not have been something going on between her and Larry (the brain-drained one in Three-Handed Game, not Larry Doomer). Some people think she was having a thing with Steed (ick ), but I tend to think Purdey pretty much kept to herself and just had a lot of evenings out to dinner. She does get a rise out of Gambit whenever she flirts with anyone, though--that seems to be her favourite past time.

Poor Gambit doesn't get her sometimes, but one thing I love about him is that he never belittles her because of it. Hge takes all her mad ravings very seriously, and actually considers them when she asks him question. And he can play along pretty good considering the stuff she says. I think she appreciates that. She should, anyway!

I can understand a lot of things, but Purdey and Steed? That's even worse than Steed and Emma!
I really don't understand how people could think of Purdey and Steed as a credible pairing..

Me neither. I can see Steed and Emma. Not Steed and Cathy, and not Steed and Purdey. It just does not compute. I always feel like Steed's pushing Purdey away a little, because he wants a friend and knows she's not really in love with him, just the legend--hero worship. You won't be seeing that in any of my fic, I can assure you.

You can't picture Emma and Steed as a couple?! I immediately assumed they were dating together after I'd seen the first episodes! Lunches, the endless scenes in Emma's apartment, the trips to Paris... I would have been disappointed if either the one of them had run of with anyone else!

Purdey likes Steed as a friend though, and I don't think there was ever menat to be more between the two of them...

Well, I don't know. It's a more likely pairing than Steed/Purdey or Steed/Cathy, but still.. To me they're just really close friends, and there's a bit of flirting going on, but a couple? Maybe my opinion has been clouded by the amount of fanfic that's been written about Steed and Emma being a couple, and I can't say I really liked it, so maybe that's it.
In a way it just feels wrong. But out all of the Avenger girls, Emma would be the most likely one to have a thing going on with Steed.

Ewww, Purdey and Steed...No way ! He's older and she's young, she's definitely the right choice for Mike, who has probably the same age. Plus, if we analyze the characters, the show, we can see that it's perfectly nonsense, putting Steed and Purdey, I mean. We often see Steed with lots of females, thus proving that he can't be mated with Purdey.

Mrs Peel is the good choice for Steed, same sense of humour, such a chemistry and many 'devil minds'.
Tara King too, she's fresh and keeps bringing joy and excitement to her partner. Cathy Gale isn't a good choice for Steed, cause she always refuses his advances, she likes putting an end to his acts. They're just very close friends.

I didn't watch the show, thinking that a relation was possible between them but step by step, and after watching THE FORGET ME KNOT and the King season, I started to believe that Mrs Peel had let something behind her, that the good old time was over, or that an ingredient was definitely out of view, missing.
If they've been together, that's so great but we'll never know the answer, we've got to use our imagination. That's what I like about it, because we've got objectives facts (a similar knowledge if you prefer, when we watch an episode, we know what's going on, how it'll be resolved) but there are also subjective facts (deeper studies) like trying to know the characters more deeply, what the nature of their relation is, etc...

Most people feel that way about Steed and Emma. I can see it going either way, to be honest. Neither one really gets my dander up like Purdey and Steed.
