Vignettes

Kick-ass Purdey style: talk about the (New) Avengers here.

Haha, fab! I wonder how on earth the writers got up with marshmallows, they're disgusting.

I like marshmallows, but not as many as Purdey likes to eat at once. I wonder who did come up with it? Probably Brian Clemens.

I think it was a bit of product placement - as there were New Avengers Marsh Mallows out at the time.

Really? That's ridiculous. It's true that series can do great PR for certain products though - I think AbFab's Bolli is probably the best example. I guess that's how marketing works...

I know, but what came first--the character trait or the product placement? I mean, they flogged Purdey's sheets as well, but they didn't have anywhere the starring role the marshmallows did--they ended up a piece of TNA continuity. To this day, the image of Steed and Gambit standing there with their marshmallow on a fork makes me laugh. Gambit looks mildly afraid.

I have a feeling that Brian Clemens wrote it as a character quirk to emphasise Purdey's eccentricities. Purdey is the maddest Avengers girl. Compared to the others, she has a, er, 'unique' take on the world. Sometimes it feels to me that something has shaken loose in her head, and it makes her do things others wouldn't do. She certainly has enough emotional baggage to make that possible.

Yes, Purdey's got to go dig Gambit and Steed out of their spot of trouble. Because that's what women have been doing since the beginning of time. :lolol:

I should make new avatars more often - two updates! I really loved the last line; it's so sweet, but there's just one thing: I need to know what happens next now.

Well, I won't say no to more avatars...

Yes, Purdey's willing to go the distance to get Gambit back. She's not changing all those diapers by herself! :lolol: No, seriously, she doesn't quite know where she'd be without him.

You want to know what happens next? Well, it is scribbled in a notebook. I just need to get typing. ^^

Because I already can't type fast enough for my brain, let alone when I have to keep looking from page to screen to keyboard and back again. It's soooo tedious. I used to write all my fics by hand, but now I don't know how I did it--I'm so used to typing it straight to the screen.

Either way, I've been doing the typing, so new scene up.

Very nice update, Timless! Reminds me a bit of the ''we're liberated now'' line - sure as hell she is. Purdey kicks ass. :d

Well, I can't exactly see her crocheting something in the corner, and I don't think Gambit would be happy with that, either. I think what's so brilliant about the pair of them is that she's liberated and he likes that, but at the same time, sometimes she likes to lean on him, and he likes that, too. He only fusses when he's really worried about her, and you can't blame him, but I think he can see she's okay at the moment. Glad you guys liked the update.

Ah, rereading, the fiction-lover's survival mechanism. Well, as glad as I am that you guys do reread, here's some new stuff to reward your patience. I'm hoping to have more. I need to get to a certain point because it links up with the Christmas fic eventually. I'm glad you guys are still enjoying--ten months I've been doing these now, can you believe it? :squee:

Of course not. In actual fact, I keep interested in the series because of your stories. I'm the kind of watcher who's totally in something, but watch every episode just one time and then move on to the next show. I've stuck around with TNA for a while now, so that's a good thing!

Yes, I've made a TNA convert stick around. :hyper: I'm like you--there are a lot of series I love but I've only watched once for the most part, because I like to keep trying new things. But no matter what happens, I come back to the Avengers and TNA, because I love Gambit and Purdey and Steed and Emma too much to leave them alone for long. And because Purdey and Gambit gave me enough fodder with their strange little love affair to write umpteen numbers of fics. ^^

Stay tuned next year for angst, first meetings, love lost, love found, crossover fun, desperate times, and, if I can get past all that, one long overdue coming together...

I feel the same way, now. I've grown rather fond of Steed and Emma too now, I keep rewatching my favorite episodes every night, hihi. They're good, and I think I don't get bored of the series because it's so timeless. The clothing and decorations aren't, of course, but hey - that's why I love the sixties.

It's funny though, because once I've read a fanfic (or only a small part of it) it sticks in my head and I keep thinking about it. I recently wondered how Purdey would feel in your Vignettes, and the update follows my mind almost completely. I dunno what that says about me and the show, haha - I guess I've spent a lot of time thinking about the characters...

The Avengers' timelessness is one of the reasons it's often cited as such a brilliant show. The sixties are fondly remembered as a whole (whereas people like to dump on the seventies, which is why TNA suffers, even though I love the seventies), so that doesn't hurt it. It's because the plots and the characters hold up well, particularly Steed and Emma--good chemistry never goes out of style, and a lot of Emma's wardrobe is retrochic now (so is a lot of Purdey and Gambit's, to be honest. I've told you I wear flares, right? Even before I watched TNA? )

Good fanfics should make you think and reevaluate your takes on the characters, both when you read and write them. I've read some stuff that was stuck in my head for days. It makes feel all warm and fuzzy that you do the same with some of mine--I've thought about the characters a lot, and how they'd act in different situations, so I can relate, and if they're ringing true to you, that's a good thing. Thank you for letting me know that! It lets me know I'm not going off-track with things like "Vignettes," because sometimes I have to navigate tough stuff, particularly this plotline. It's not going anywhere, either--hopefully it'll stay on target.
